RCR: Into the Sub-Zero’s
November 26 2016
It may not look like winter in Edmonton just yet, but taking photographs while chasing River City Runners on their long run this morning was definitely not as comfortable as runs past.
It has been a really gradual slip into the negative temperature range this year, which has made it nice to try and figure out my gear to stay warm, and not get too hot riding around shooting runners. -5C is about the limit for shoes and socks, so I’ll have to bust out the 45NRTH Wölvhammer’s for next week. Perhaps even tights if it’s any colder.
I will definitely be moving to a full winter -20C mitten on the left hand, while keeping my Black Diamond Arc Glove on my right hand to still allow me to shoot. Even with the Arc glove, however, moving the focus point on my Canon 5D MK3 wasn’t as precise as I would have liked and resulted in missing a couple shots today. I’ll add a pogie to the right side on my handle bar to keep the gloved hand in while riding, and hopefully that get’s me to -10C with the Arc. Once it gets colder, things will get more interesting on these 2 hour shooting sessions with RCR.
As always, enjoy the photos!
