CJFL: Edmonton Wildcats VS Edmonton Huskies
August 30 2016 // Clarke Field, Edmonton, AB
Week 3 of the Prairie Football Conference saw the Edmonton Huskies VS Edmonton Wildcats from Clarke Field on Saturday, August 27, 2016.
On a cloudy night, the lights were on early, and the lack of light made catching the action tough. Talking with another photographer—Gord—during the game, we joke about it being tough to get good action shots of your team when there is no rhythm in the offense. And it’s true. I’ve struggled a little bit this year because the offense hasn’t had a lot of long drives where they march down the field on Bray’s back.
My action shots are down, but my sideline stuff is much better as a result. Separation and isolation is tough to find for the running back’s as there are not a lot of holes to run through, and there isn’t a favourite route that gets hit all night I can sit on and get a great shot of a catch. As a photographer, especially of a specific team, you live and breathe with the offense. If they are in a pattern, you’ll be in a pattern and come back with a ton of great keepers.
It’s been a tough season thus far, and that was the case again tonight, but these are still great kids doing what they enjoy most in the world, and I’ll always be honoured to roam the sidelines and capture it all. Regardless of what their record is.
