2017 North Brooklyn Runners McCarren Park Track Classic
April 21 2017 // McCarren Park, Brooklyn, NY
If you didn’t grab your spikes, put your puffy jacket on, and come out to the North Brooklyn Runners McCarren Park Track Classic tonight, you missed out on a lot of fun. And some great racing.
My only regret in life up to this point was not signing up for a race. I am competitive by nature, and after about 5 minutes of being at McCarren Park in Brooklyn tonight, I immediately knew that I made a big mistake bringing my cameras instead of running shorts and a pair of spikes.
Huge missed opportunity.
It was an absolute blast nonetheless. Track clubs, crews, and individual racers came from many NY Boroughs to take part in the action on the track in the middle of this lovely city. It was chilly, humid, and when the wind kicked up it made the tears form in the corners of my eyes as I ran from corner to corner of the track.
I had some great conversations, got some stellar photos of the athletes that toed the start line, and I finished off an amazing two weeks immersed in the run culture of NYC. I am most certainly not done with this city and it’s impressively deep and tight knit run culture. I’ll be back before the race season is over—or at least for the marathon in the fall at worst.
Thanks for the love everyone. Don’t hesitate to reach out to make sure I focus on your crew through my viewfinder the next time I’m in town.
Congrats to all the athletes last night. I heard a lot of “that’s my fastest mile”, and “this is such a blast”…and also, “I’ve got nothing left for the relay”. It was an honour to capture the action on and off the track. Enjoy the photos everyone. NYC…peace!
