2017 BMO Vancouver Marathon
May 7 2017 // Vancouver, BC
I am fortunate enough to find myself in Queen Elizabeth Park at the start line of the 2017 BMO Vancouver Marathon on a brisk morning in early May. It’s race day!
The BMO is an interesting race in that the half marathon runs at 7:00am, with the full marathon starting at 8:30am. This means that I’ll be able to go out with the half from the start, shoot most everyone I want to track as they will all finish within an hour and a half, and then head out to Kitsilano to pick up the front runners of the full around the 17-20KM mark.
Well, that was the plan sitting in the airport in Edmonton Saturday night.
Unfortunately, as I stand here at the start line—on only two hours of sleep—straddling my bike with almost flat tires, I realize that I might need to switch to plan B, and simply try to stick with Jen Elliott who has a goal time of 1:30.
You see, I landed at YVR an hour late and upon arriving at my accommodations in Kits, getting sorted, my bike built, and gear ready for tomorrow—the tire pump that I thought was going to be the last piece to the puzzle had only a schrader nozzle. So I stand here after tracking down a public bike pump at 12:30AM last night that was only capable of getting 60 PSI in my tires. I stand here knowing it’s about to be an exhausting day.
And I wouldn’t have it any other way. Enjoy the photos. I had a blast!
