2016 Canadian Championships: Women’s 5000M
July 8 2016 // Foote Field, Edmonton, AB
I have the pleasure of photographing more Olympic athletes this whole weekend, and I wanted to try and do something a little different instead of posting a single set at the end with all my favourites. I tried to capture the story of the race with this set.
I had it on good authority, thank-you so very much Stephana, that the women’s 5000m would be a great race tonight, and as the sun was setting on a beautiful first day of the 2016 Canadian Championships and Rio Selection Trials—we definitely weren’t disappointed.
It really was a fun race to watch unfold and congrats to Andrea Seccafien for doing her thing and hiding out in the pack, only to emerge as the leader on the last couple of laps holding off the charge of Sasha Gollish, and Jessica O’Connell.
As a result, Andrea Seccafien, Jessica O’Connell, and Rachel Cliff will qualify for the Olympic team because 3rd place finisher Sasha Gollish hadn’t ran the Olympic standard in the 5000m. I think that’s how this all works. Congrats to you ladies, and thank-you for the fantastic show tonight.
